BARTON AND BRIGG CIRCUIT
'What time will you be arriving Mr President? In time for a
meal and to join us at the monthly circuit prayer meeting' - 'YES', and so
began a weekend of alleluia moments that, to quote the President, 'started in
prayer and ended in praise'.
Complete with pink sweater the President, and over
forty Methodists and Anglicans, shared in prayer in Goxhill Chapel on the
Thursday evening.
The 'kingdom conversation' prayed for over the past few
months took place, as the President came and went during his weekend
at Barton Manse, but the 'slipper relaxation' was very skimped!
Barton Trinity church hosted evening worship on the Sunday
after a sumptuous 'bring and share' tea provided by the circuit, with an open
invitation to folk from the District. The
President engaged everyone in a Question and Answer time, of
which senior Circuit Steward, Anne Spolton, was chair person, before
he opened our minds to the 'new' story of Methodism with inspirational stories
of God's grace reaching, refreshing and transforming lives from around the
Connexion.
The gift of this challenge was reinforced with
another, a candle, the suggestion being made that we light this at each circuit
prayer meeting, reminding us to be God's 'Living Fire' in Lincolnshire.
During our worship the President presented a very surprised
Rev E. Barrie Leah with a card and an olive wood carving of the holy family, it
being forty years since his ordination.
The President returned to Lancashire
not only with our love, prayers and gratitude, but also with half a dozen fresh
eggs, c/o the manse hens. And all God's people said 'alleluia'.

David Belford, Superintendent and spouse.
