Lincolnshire Youth Mission, Monday 28th September
RoadHOG: “The wheels on the bus go round and round.”
Lincolnshire Youth Mission convert a double-decker bus into a mobile
youth centre.
RoadHOG Launch date, Thursday 1st October, 1:45pm, St Giles School, Old
Leake, near Boston.
On Thursday 1st October Lincolnshire Youth Mission (LYM) will be
launching its latest project, 'RoadHOG' to help meet the spiritual,
social and growing needs of young people from across our region. Mindful
of the need to reach some of the isolated areas surrounding Boston, LYM
is working in partnership with local churches, Boston Borough Council,
Stagecoach and Lincolnshire Police to convert a double decker bus into a
youth centre on wheels. The Rt Rev John Saxbee, the Bishop of Lincoln,
will be attending.
RoadHOG is the vision of local people who have worked together for some
eight years before teaming up with Lincolnshire Youth Mission. It will
be steered by a number of local churches in the area; the Methodist
Church, New Life Fellowship, Boston Baptist Church and the Church of
England are all involved in the project. It is hoped that the bus will
provide a safer place on the streets where young people can meet friends
and that its workers will be able to offer the care, support and
inspiration that young people need to reach their potential in life.
RoadHOG will be a House of God on the road, reaching out to young people
in fresh ways.
Over £133,000 has been raised to help meet the operational costs of
running the bus for the first three years. Local people have been
donating bus tickets at £5 each, mindful that this will help one young
person benefit from the support that is on offer. Chair of Lincolnshire
Youth Mission, Nick Chambers comments, “Thanks to the generosity of so
many and the shared vision of various denominations from within Boston
and the surrounding area, the Road HOG has become a reality, responding
to the needs of young people within the local community. This project is
an exciting opportunity to reach out to those who are an integral part
of our society. The launch of the bus is only the start of its journey,
Its ongoing success will be subject to the continued support and
giving.” Contacts:
