DISTRICT NETWORK DAY
SPRING DISTRICT NETWORK DAY
The spring District Network Day was held recently on Thursday 25 March at Thurlby in the Bourne Circuit. Attendance was down on last year but those of us who were there enjoyed a relaxing day in the company of our Thurlby hosts and guest speaker, Judith Lampard who chose as her theme, ‘Sacred Places and Holy People’. Judith began with her ‘home chapel’ in Dove Holes, Derbyshire and took us on a journey through places, time and space where it was possible to reflect on and enhance our spiritual experience.
For myself, it was a nostalgic trip back to the circuit where I had previously spent 14 years; indeed, I would include Bourne and Thurlby Methodist churches in my list of sacred places as I spent so many happy times in both places, some of which I shared during the morning session.
During the short business meeting, information was shared regarding the future of network and the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women, soon to become ‘Methodist Women in Britain’.
We could not have managed without the sterling efforts of Trevor and Val Peacock who provided music and sound support.
SWANWICK CONFERENCE, 16 – 18 APRIL
This year’s conference was the first joint venture by both Network and the World Federation, attended by 170 ladies including just 2 from L&G District, Iris West and myself. As always, it was good to catch up with friends ‘old and new’ and to make new friends in the various groups and creative options.
The theme was ‘Moving and Travelling on’ in which the main sessions were a series of Bible studies and discussion based on the experiences of Mary and Elizabeth, with a Russian emphasis as Nicola Vidamour (main facilitator) had recently returned from ministry there.
Early morning prayers were available to suit many preferred styles and Alison Judd’s sharing of reflections on Rublev’s Icon of the Trinity was the highlight of the weekend for me. (Alison will be the guest speaker at the Autumn District Day on 6 October at Ashby Wesley in Scunthorpe).
The beautiful warm enhanced the relaxed atmosphere of the weekend and meant it was possible to really enjoy the grounds and setting of this well equipped conference centre.
